Trying to squeeze Massachusetts singer-songwriter Heather Maloney into a particular box is futile. What consistently shines through in her songwriting is her sincerity. On the folk number “Dirt and Stardust,” a song from her third, self-titled album (and first for the Signature Sounds label), she ambles through a thoughtful narrative about the pleasures and travails associated with a restless heart as she explores her place in an ever-changing world. However, the narrator’s refusal to remain stagnant should not be confused with aimlessness; Maloney crafts a woman who firmly acknowledges her needs and desires.
