“Midnight Sunshine” – Jennie Curran

On her self-titled debut EP, Jennie Curran has roughly eleven and a half minutes to make an impression. That may be all the gifted New York native needs.  Curran moved to Nashville to study the music business at Belmont University and worked at Warner Brothers Records before transitioning into her current life as a singer-songwriter.  Based on this appealing  first release, she made the right choice.

Of particular note is “Midnight Sunshine,” a slinky, jazz-kissed number that ably presents Curran’s strengths as a performer.  When her warm vocals swell from an intimate hush into some sweet, soulful scatting it’s nearly impossible not to nod along in appreciation.  If Curran shows this much promise on a three-song EP, listeners can only look forward to what she has to offer on a full-length release.
