Video Flashback: “Grateful” – Joanna Cotten

Thanks to crackleunscripted for the clip.

This inspirational gem popped up on my playlist today, reminding me that all too often I’m guilty of forgetting to be thankful for the important people in my life.  Although this particular song is about a romantic love, it tends to remind me of the people I am blessed to call friends.  I only have a handful, but they mean the world to me.

Regrettably,  Joanna Cotten’s country-soul debut album Funkabilly which featured the single “The Prize” never got a major label release on Warner Brothers, although it did see the light of day as an independent release.  She also self-released a self-titled follow-up.  Fans can still hear her no-holds-barred vocals on a plethora of records (Tim McGraw,  Eric Church, Amos Lee, Adam Hood) and she continues to tour (frequently with Eric Church and Greg Barnhill) and pen songs.

  1. Loved Funkabilly! My kids and I knew every word of every song. Don’t understand the politics
