Charles Johnson Takes Off “Running”

Charles Johnson Takes Off “Running”

Tomorrow marks the first stop on Americana singer-songwriter Charles Johnson’s “Crazy Horse” tour, which kicks off in Texas. This picturesque video for “Running Like the Wind” does a great job of capturing the overall vibe of the Nashville-based artist’s debut Everything I Know. Johnson’s gravelly vocals and evocative songwriting provide a perfect soundtrack for anyone with a rambler’s heart and a restless soul.

What I particularly like about this song is that it addresses the woman who is left behind in addition to the outlaw’s almost desperate desire to return home following a long absence.  There’s an urgency associated with his plea to be remembered. When Johnson sings “I’ve got your picture/Please look at mine/Again and again/Again and again”, his yearning is palpable, hinting at the emotional toll the separation has taken on both parties.
