Penned by Ronnie Bowman and Greg Luck, “The Healing Kind” is a beautifully crafted tale of heartbreak, striking in its simplicity and heartfelt sentiments. Bowman, Dan Seals and LeeAnn Womack all recorded excellent versions of the song, and Irish songstress Olivia Douglas adds to that tradition with her own poignant rendition. Her pure voice perfectly matches the mournful number, conveying the loneliness of a person trapped in remembrances of the past.
“The Healing Kind” is the first single from Douglas’ debut album Another Heartache, a carefully chosen collection of country music that also includes songs recorded by Miranda Lambert (the title track and “Something That I Like About A Honky Tonk”), Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson (“Good Hearted Woman”), Highway 101 (“Honky Tonk Heart”) and Hal Ketchum (“Past The Point of Rescue”) among others. Douglas, a devotee of Womack, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and Alison Krauss, veers between vulnerability and feistiness, all while remaining faithful to a classic country style. Traditional country fans should keep an eye on her.
